Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute was established on October 1, 2008, based on the merger of the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Social Sciences under the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. As a scientific research agency under the People's Committee of the city; has the function of researching, advising and consulting for the City Party Committee, the People's Committee of the city on issues in the field of economics, society and urban environment in the city. Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute is one of the leading scientific research agencies in Vietnam, with a team of highly qualified and experienced scientific staff, modern equipment, the Institute has been and is actively contributing to researching, advising and consulting for the City Party Committee, the People's Committee of the city on issues in the field of economics, society and urban environment in the city. Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute has achieved many achievements in scientific research, making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the city. The Institute has been awarded many prestigious titles, such as the Third Class Labor Medal, the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit, the Certificate of Merit of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
